It all started in 1876
Norway Seafoods dates back to 1876 with the founding of J.M. Johansen in Stamsund in Lofoten, Norway. Since then, we have been present along the coast of Northern Norway and we benefit from the knowhow and tradition of producing whitefish.
Through a number of acquisitions from the mid 1990’s, Norway Seafoods has grown to be the leader in Norwegian whitefish. Activities also expanded beyond Norwegian borders through acquisitions of Thorfisk (Denmark), Viviers Marins and Vivier de France (France).
A leader in Whitefish
Today the company employs around 870 people and annually handles more than 70 000 tons of fish (gutted weight). This makes Norway Seafoods one of the largest companies in Europe within the supply of whitefish.
1994: Norway Seafoods was established. Skaarfish Group AS was the first fishing operation acquired in Norway.
1996: Acquisition of Foodmark, a Danish holding company, which included the Thorfisk and Thorfisk Trading subsidiaries.
1996-2004: Important acquisitions in Norway to strengthen the fishing fleet and processing capabilities.
2005: Name changed to Aker Seafoods and was listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Acquired West Fish-Aarsæther AS and Nordic Sea Holding AS.
2008-2009: Acquired the French seafood companies Viviers Marins and Viviers de France.
2010: Norway Seafoods was established as the group’s processing, sales and marketing company and redefined its strategy from catch oriented to development of sales, marketing and processing of whitefish and other seafood.
2012: Norway Seafoods was separated from Aker Seafoods. The company now focuses all activities to fulfill its defined strategic ambitions.
2013: Norway Seafoods completes sale of processing operations in France to Groupe Cooperatif Maisadour. The transaction includes the processing facilities in Boulogne-Sur-Mer and Castets, agreements, equipment and inventory as well as customer contracts.
